| BlackGold Biofuels owns and operates a pilot plant in North Philadelphia where we produce high-quality biodiesel from brown greases and conduct ongoing research. In 2004, BlackGold determined it needed a facility to demonstrate its innovative technology. Many companies were claiming the ability to process high FFA materials, but when pushed, none were actually doing it. Now BlackGold processes brown greases from around the world at our pilot plant. Biodiesel produced there has fueled over 20,000 miles of driving. BlackGold’s plant has two processing scales: lab and pilot. BlackGold develops new process innovations in the lab, scales them up, and then implements them on the pilot scale. After producing fuel on the pilot scale and demonstrating the success of its technology, the plant is now used primarily for R&D to make ongoing process optimizations and improvements. Also, feedstock samples from prospective licensees throughout the country are processed at the pilot plant. Municipalities, wastewater treatment plants, large trap grease pumpers, and biodiesel project developers have sent BlackGold samples of their brown greases for characterization and conversion into biodiesel. BlackGold has processed material from California to Florida, from Texas to Hong Kong. Public tours of the pilot plant are not currently offered due to the proprietary nature of our technology and the time constraints of our staff. We appreciate your understanding. More information about biodiesel can be found in our biodiesel section and on the National Biodiesel Board website. |
